So hi, I'm still alive!

I *will* finish it one day!

Day 12 - A book or series of books you’ve read more than five times
LotR, Tigana, The Elderling books, the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, Chrinicles of Narnia...

Day 13 - Favorite childhood book OR current favorite YA book (or both!)
When I was a kid I loved the Narnia books. I  also had a bit of a thing for the Drina books by Jean Estoril (now there's something you never knew about me!!!)  If I had been young enough I would've added the Harry Potter books to my favourites but alas, I read them as an adult (and just wished I was a kid again)

Day 14 - Favorite character in a book (of any sex or gender)
Hmmm, this tends to fluctuate wildly depending on what I'm reading but Aragorn, Vishous, John  Thornton &  Paragon. Goodness knows what that says about me!

Edited to add - oooooooooooh how could I forget the other proper hero of <3 Richard Sharpe? Got to put him on my list!

It's not cheating...

It's my journal and I can post how I want to ;)

Day 09 - Best scene ever

In The Golden Fool by Robin Hobb, the scene where Nighteyes...well you'll know it if you read it.

Day 10 - A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

The Time Traveller's Wife. Seriously, all signs pointed to it as being something that's not really my thing but I was very wrong.

Day 11 - A book that disappointed you

Dead in the Family. Although I know that I set myself up to be disappointed by it as I'd read a ton of fan-fic before it came out about how the Eric/Sookie thing would go and I actually thought some of it was better than the direction the book took it. So it's my fault and not the book itself.

Slowly but surely...

Day 08 - A book everyone should read at least once

Now this is something I don't think I can answer. Because I don't want to be telling people what they should be doing with regards to any part of life. And hey, I'm just happy if people read books in general because it's something that many folk don't often do and I think they end up missing out on so much.

One book that I has always stuck in my mind as something that is profoundly moving and I would suggest that anyone read if they can is All Quiet on the Western Front

I came across it in a corner of the library when I was at school hiding from my peers and it remains to this day the book which has had the most emotional impact on my life.

*insert witty subject line here*

Gosh, there's more...

Day 07 - Least favorite plot device employed by way too many books you actually enjoyed otherwise

Simple answer - the Anita Blake books when they stopped being about anything other than the ardeur. Come back actual kick-ass plots, I miss you!

Still going!

I will finish this you know, even if it takes me til next year!

Day 06 - Favorite book of your favorite series OR your favorite book of all time

Ooooh that's a tough one. I can't pick one book of a series as that kind of defeats the object of it being a continuing story...and I don't have one favourite book of all time. I can list a few of my go-to comfort reads though instead - Sahara by Clive Cussler (as my favourite of the Dirk Pitt books of silly awesomeness), Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay, the BDB  books, anything by David Gemmell, Northanger Abbey and Terry Pratchett's books.

Ooooh looky, another post!

Day 05 - A book or series you hate

First off, I can safely say the Twilight series fits here. Of course, I got about 1/4 of the way through the first book before I couldn't take any more. It had hit the wall a fair few times as well as it was truly awful. Haven't tried the others of the series and I  really don't want to either. i can live quite eaily with proper trashy vampire books without that shit.

Also anything by Dan Brown goes on my automatic ignore list. I tired Da Vinci Code as well as Angels & Demons but couldn't finish either. For me not to be able to finih a book mean I must truely loathe it as it's very unusual for that to happen.

Bring on some happy questions, that was a bit rubbish!

Could I be any slower?

Well I didn't say they'd be consecutive days now did I? ;)

Day 04 - Your favorite book or series ever

Another tough question. I  thought my answer would be Lord of the Rings, hands down because it's had such a huge influence on my life and I love it so much. But then I got to thinking, there's another series of books I re-read just as much and love to death so I have joint favourites. Who knew?! Anyway, that would be the Farseer/Liveship books by Robin Hobb. So much love you would not believe...especially for my personalised signed bookplate copies :D

And now,  I'm off to go play on a yacht for the afternoon in the sunshine. Hurrah!

Will I ever reach the end?Collapse )

Well it's sort of being daily...

Day 03 - The best book you've read in the last 12 months

Ooooh this one's tough. Mostly as I'm finding it hard to remember just what I've read in the last year :-/ I do know that there wasn't anything particularly "can't put it down" among them although there was plenty I enjoyed (Lover Mine, 206 Bones and The God Emporer of Didcot spring to mind)

Oh lookie, a cut...Collapse )

Oh lookie, more books!

Day 02 - A book or series you wish more people were reading and talking about

The Chronicles of Isembard Smith series by Toby Frost.  Ok there's only 3 books so far but I adore the style and silliness. Although a fair warning - I think they're probably a bit marmite in a love=/=hate way.

The rest of the questions...will they ever be answered?Collapse )
